Windy Ridge Oct 2009
Mike, Val, Jakob and I were crazy enough to attempt the Windy Ridge trail on the Thanksgiving weekend.
Spent Friday night at Mowson Pond

The fire that went though in June did not destroy the site, but did singe the trees around camp.

The fire was still burning in spots. This was on the Tyax road just up from Carpenter

Mike decided he needed to fill up with gas, so we all went into town Saturday morning.

More fire burned trees

Snow on the road to Mud Lakes. A sign of things to come

Snow at Mud Lakes

You know its cold when ice forms on the Jeep while in motion

Churn Creek was a bit icy

Excellent, great news. Maybe we should turn around.

Val in one of the rutted sections

Crossing a cut block

Jakob negotiating some of the tight trees

More warnings!

Finally! At the Ridge!

Working my way down the ridge

Porcupine Creek road washouts

And then we came across these horses

In the meadow at the end of the trail. Just a short drive left to the main FSR

Camping in the Churn Creek Park

It was a bit cold at -15 deg C in the morning

A beautiful morning

Looks like someone left the tap on...

Big Bar Lake

Yep, that is a warf with an outboard engine on it. You know you are a red neck when...

Airing up before getting onto HWY 97
